For this Blog I thought it would be cool to interview my mom. My mom isn't in particular from the past she was born in the mid 80s and grew up in the 90s. She grew up to immigrant parents from Argentina so I thought this would be an interesting interview combining American high school with South American culture and seeing which one she would choose. When I first asked my mom her face light up and was talking about some of her favorites from the 90s the first person she talked about was Selena. She exclaimed how Selena was her all time favorite artist in the early 90s and she exclaimed songs like "La Carcacha" and "Como La Flor" were some of her favorites. I asked her what inspired her love for Selena and her answer surprised me. Salsa dance is a popular social dance that originated in the Caribbean, specifically in Cuba and Puerto Rico. Its roots can be traced back to the late 19th century, when African and Spanish musical styles began to blend in Cuba.   In Cuba, the African rhythms of rumba, son, and mambo mixed with Spanish music and dance styles such as the danzón and cha-cha-cha to create a new form of music and dance that eventually became known as salsa.
